I've learned that I can not drink light or medium roasts...beans MUST be dark. Been trying these two and they work well for me. Eight O'Clock was the A&P house brand that I remember from back when A&P was THE BIG Grocery store and that was many decades ago. In the 1950s Cook Coffee would deliver in their spiffy painted trucks...things were so much simpler. To me both are quite good however the Hill's had a big price increase shortly after I bought a few pounds. Now that the mornings are getting cooler it's really a nice way to start the day...20 ounces of freshly ground dark roast!
I can't drink light or medium roast either. They both mess with my stomach. My brother and I both buy the Eight O'Clock. THat is the brand my mom and dad drank back in the day. They shopped at A&P ! I remember Hills Brothers , but I have not seen that anywhere. Yes, coffee is nice first thing in the morning. I limit myself to one cup now though and I am sleeping much better. Today the weather was SPECTACULAR and it's hard to have a bad day when the weather is this nice AND MY TIME IS MY TIME. Lot to be said for retirement! I Hope YOUR day was as good as mine and tomorrow will be even better!
Oh thanks for posting the link to that commercial. I remember it also. That was back in the day when commercials were not so annoying. Back when the world was normal!
DeleteAnd another update/review....I have been switching off between Eight O'Clock and Hills Bros and I REALLY like both of them. I fill a small 16 ounce container that was used for cottage cheese with beans and use that until it runs out and then refill it. I do keep the bulk of the beans in the refrigerator. So...not really a good A/B test side by side BUT I can say BOTH are nice strong dark roasts and VERY enjoyable...can't go wrong with either.
DeleteAnd I'm trying to keep my world normal AND simple! I also agree...there was a time when commercials were not so annoying or were so many. If you YouTube some 1950s or even early 1950s TV shows you will see that they run ~26-27 minutes...MANY fewer commercials back then. It's also fun to see everyone smoking cigarettes on camera!
